Thats gotta be so bad for the lungs
What is the point of keeping an ink stick for a hundred years? It's like keeping a candle and not lighting it up and prefer to stay in the dark at night.
Why Japanese Calligraphy Ink Is So Expensive? The secret is the feet sweat fermentation.... Just like sake.
Ink Maker 500 Years ago: I would love it if there was a way to turn those lids automatically and refill the lamps without having to do it manually, but sadly there isn't and I have to make do.
Ink Maker today: It's tradition....
There is nothing finer than Japanese artisanry.
So a person could graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in the time it takes.
Goes out, buys an ink stone, expensive brush, expensive paper, and a $2,000 ink stick. Goes outside into the beautiful wilderness, takes a sip of sake, clears the mind, then with perfect precision, writes the word "pen!s".
You know
And i'm Argentine
And they need to talk about 2024
I don't like 2023 because that year was disappointhing
Man ,just gimme a bite of it
Why is Japanese anything so $$$
japanese emperors found a genius way to manage natural resources. they realised that there was only so much land and gold, so they started to create value out of other things. like they made tea cups a big deal, so making tea cups was a special job and tea cups were extremely expensive. i see similar patterns in traditional Japanese craft. in this case, they have managed to legitimately raise value of oil and animal hide/tendons by 1000 dollars.
Every japanesse things is expensif
"The artisans have an average life expectancy of 8 days, largely due to the effects of smoke inhalation" 🫁
Aha! Because it has feet cheese...
It would be interesting to make an independent scientific study about whats the optimal method and time to dry those sticks.
Beautiful work. A piece of art and tradition.
ngl that dried ink looks like ass
lol easier way of getting carbon
Damn dude is like 400 years old respect 🫡
1 second into the video and he's using his feet!!!
I guess the greese and sweat from his feet is one of the main parts of this ink
The forbidden Belgian Chocolate Bar
They cut too many corners and rely on machinery too much... he should've made it into perfect square with his feet!
Once again I am amazed by Japan. I especially like it when masters of their craft do something. It’s immediately obvious that the man gave his whole soul and life to his craft!
He’s been making it for 450 years! GYAT dam
The japanese are specialists at making overpriced everything.
So if I throw a brick at a child I can claim that I was just playing Splatoon irl?
Thanks Japan!
Come to NY you’ll catch smoke off landing
how does a business like that start? i mean, if something takes years to make, does the person think ,"hey, i wanna start a business, ill start now, but i wont open for another couple of years"?
or do they start the business with cheaper stuff that doesnt take anytime to make, while they do the other things that take years in the background?
like alcohols as well. like, we all see the business up and running already.. but how does one start out if it takes years to make?
Why Japanese *put anything here* is so expensive?
I wonder what prevents him from using a electric mixer
Respect to the Japanese with how they preserve their traditions and culture
Japan is traditional as well as futuristic... ❤
Japanese Calligraphy? You mean Japanese writing Chinese characters with made up meanings lol
Imagine buying something 450 years ago, and then buying it again and its exactly the same as it was
The way it end with him saying the company is losing money, i do t think they will be making those for so long.
Still cheaper than printer ink
I hope most of the money stays with the artisans.
cheaper then ink from HP
Imagine if American companies took this approach with their crafts… profit is not the primary goal, a product or service worth making and worth buying along with well paid employees would be…
I’m curious if he is able to wash his feet and hands off leaving no black on them.
cant see a diffrent with these inks and the 1€ school ink from my child
0:03 god I wish that was me
Many people don't understand the value of tradition, especially if they have not went through the same experiences. As Susumu sir said, they focus on quality over efficiency, and the intensive labour cannot be compromised. This way, they are preserving their culture as well. I have a lot of respect for all the people working day and night to make this possible. Keep it up!
That's how india used to make bread in ancient times
Japanese culture is generally the harder and more tedious sonething is to make, ismore valuable
I would imagine their lungs do not appreciate all the soot
